RePurpose Village: An infrastructure of reuse

‘RePurpose Village’ aims to reuse construction components and materials that would otherwise be thrown away.

An existing maker community in an industrial area of Sheffield refurbishes and trades discarded components. It enables homeowners, contractors, and businesses to build with less impact on the planet.

A derelict brick structure that was once a co-operative flour mill is retrofitted as a ‘site office’ with experts on hand to offer advice in this circular economy of building.

Why the project has been nominated.

The material agenda is robust and rigorously investigated and is one of the greatest strengths of the project

Nathan’s thesis project shows excellent development of an agenda and architectural position, which informs the project across a variety of scales to set out a clear and very relevant thesis.

There is a real sense that Nathan’s design process has developed into an intelligently opportunistic and ‘ad hoc’ method, which appropriately mirrors the social and urban context and agenda.

Elegantly drawn and presented throughout, the sectional drawings of the proposal are particularly effective in capturing the quality of space and place.

The material agenda is robust and rigorously investigated and is one of the greatest strengths of the project, having been applied to generate a sustainable, considered and realisable proposal.
