Margaret and John asked us to make their bungalow on the West coast of Anglesey warmer, more environmentally friendly & more cost effective to run.
Margaret and John loved the house; it’s beautifully situated with lovely views, is filled with light and gets lots of sun. However, they wanted to hugely reduce its energy use and increase its comfort.
We have a lovely, light, airy, comfy home… I come through the front door and it’s bliss
Creating a warm and comfortable home with reduced energy bills
The retrofit work included new floor insulation, cavity wall insulation, external wall insulation and roof insulation. In addition to this, they also applied new render, installed triple glazed windows and extensive air-tightness detailing. The heating has switched from oil to an air-source heat pump and they’ve installed a large solar array.
Internal upgrades to match the performance.
They took the opportunity to add new internal finishes, a new kitchen and fitted storage. Visually, it’s a very subtle update, but we’ve managed to reduce space heating demand from 286 kWh/m2.a to 65 kWh/m2.a giving expected annual electricity bills of around £1100. They will then have the benefit of energy production from their solar power to offset a proportion of this cost.
The beautifully designed kitchen and matching utility room were supplied by Sheffield Sustainable kitchens.
We helped Margaret and John to choose the right contractor through our tender process, before supporting them during the construction stage.
